We're two millennials who are getting into cooking. Over the past few months, we've figured out there are some items that are essential in the kitchen. We've compiled a list of 10 great gifts for anyone who is learning to cook.

1. Silicone Tipped Tongs
Hotec Premium Stainless Steel Locking Kitchen Tongs with Silicon Tips
Along with stirring spoons and silverware, we use tongs for almost every meal we cook. Not only are these tongs easy to grip, but they will keep pans from being scratched and scraped!
2. A Single Paring Knife
SAKEN Paring Knife, 3.5 Inch
All anyone needs is one good knife. It's much easier to take care of one nice knife than all of those cheap, dull knives.
3. Silicone Spatula Set
U-Taste 600ºF High Heat-Resistant Premium Silicone Spatula Set
We use silicone spatulas all the time! We're millennials and we don't have super nice non-stick pots and pans. It's so nice to be able to scrape things off of them without scratching. They're also cute to display in a utensil holder.
4. A Non-slip Mixing Bowl
ExcelSteel 297 3-Quart Stainless Steel Non Skid Base Mixing Bowl
This is something that you don't know that you need until you have it! For the longest time, we were using a large tupperware bowl as a mixing bowl and we're definitely not the only ones in that situation. A mixing bowl is perfect for a college-aged person who's learning to cook.
5. A Bamboo Cutting Board
Organic Bamboo Cutting Board with Juice Groove
We didn't have a cutting board for the longest time, which led to us scratching up everything from our plates to our counter tops. This is essential for anyone no matter the level of skill in the kitchen.
6. Glass food storage containers
Bayco Glass Storage Containers with Lids
These were a game changer for us. Unlike plastic storage containers, these are heavy, meaning they stack well. This keeps us from losing a lid and ending up with a stray container. They also save us money, as we are able to save and freeze our leftover raw foods as well as save our leftovers and take them for lunch the next day.
7. Multisurface spray
Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multisurface Cleaner
This is our favorite multisurface spray because it is have multiple uses. You can use it as a typical cleaner where you spray then wipe and you can also just spray to disinfect without wiping. This spray also smells great and comes in a 100% recycled bottled!
8. Pyrex mixing cup
Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup
A nice measuring cup is essential to anyone who cooks at all. We had a plastic one before this and it got knocked over and spilled so many times. This 2-cup measuring cup is the perfect size and is used almost every time we cook.
9. Measuring spoons
Measuring Spoon Set, Stainless Set of 6 Metal Measuring Spoon for Measuring
Just like a measuring cup, measuring spoons are essential. These measuring spoons are great because they are hooked together, but you can also separate them if needed. The stainless steel looks sturdy and so classy, however these spoons are super affordable!
10. Speaker
JBL GO2 Waterproof Ultra Portable Bluetooth Speaker
Our last kitchen essential for someone learning to cook is a speaker. We love playing music or listening to podcasts when we're cooking. This speaker is great because it's waterproof, so if you accidentally spill something on it or drop it in the sink, no worries!
